Pink Calla Lily

This is my grouping of Pink Calla Lilies.  It was really sunny when the picture was taken, they are kinda washed out in the true color.  They are very pretty in the garden.

The elegant calla lily can also be a dangerous flower. If it is ingested, it can be toxic. The calla lily contains calcium oxalate crystals that cause intense burning and irritation to the mouth, lips and tongue. It can cause vomiting and difficulty swallowing.  Note to self:  be careful, be careful, be careful!!!

Black Calla Lily

Calla Lilies are native to South Africa.  This is a Black mini calla lily.  The colored hybrids are called Mini Callas because their flowers are shorter than the white ones.  I am lucky to get this color in the bulb package I bought at Lowe's because this color is not that common.

What is a Calla Lily you ask?


The Calla Lily has a symbolic meaning. It is, ironically, associated with both weddings and funerals. The Calla Lily is symbolic of marriage and purity because of its white color and its trumpet-like shape, similar to a woman's shape. It is also the symbol of rebirth and resurrection; therefore, it is widely used in funeral arrangements and planted in cemeteries.

This is a different color for the Calla Lily.  It looks like a snake!  Please don't shame me over the weeds in this picture.  I was not able to get to the garden last weekend to work.

I had 2 more Calla Lilies come up and bloom.  I now have 4 out of 5 bulbs in bloom.  One is pink and one is white.  These are different from the other most recent pictures I posted of the Calla Lilies.  You can see that the green leaves are plain, not spotted.

This is a better picture of the pink calla lily in my garden from two different views.  I'm not sure how long calla lilies bloom.

Finally, one of the Calla Lilies has bloomed.  They were suppose to be PINK, but this one is certainly white.  One of the pink callas bloomed, but since I was taking the pictures today, the pink one is blurry.
